String of Hearts Kokedama
Kokedama ceropegia
The utterly Instagrammable string of hearts has experienced a sharp uptick in popularity in the last few years, and it’s not hard to see why.
Water your string of hearts sparingly and keep it in medium to bright indirect light for the best results. Place this hanging plant somewhere high and its stems will trail towards the ground, though do feel free to give them a little prune if they’re getting too long.

Plant Bio
Originating from South Africa and Zimbabwe, the string of hearts was discovered in 1881 by botanist John Medley Wood in the province of Natal. In 1894 he sent a sample to Kew Gardens, which was the first instance of the plant appearing in the UK.
Though we call this plant ‘string of hearts’ for fairly obvious reasons (just look at its leaves), the Latin name is a little more… poetic. The word ‘ceropegia’ comes from ‘keros’, meaning wax, and ‘pege’, meaning fountain or spring. The botanist who originally named the plant did so because he thought that it looked like a ‘fountain of wax’.
