Read our best houseplant care advice for the colder autumn season
The seasons are changing, and the weather is getting cooler, so we know you’ve probably been wondering how to keep your plants healthy during autumn. Pop by our London plant shop for some expert advice amidst the greenery or read on for our top autumn indoor plant tips, from how to make sure your plants have enough light, through to when to water your plants.
Slow down on watering
As the weather is cooling down and the days are getting shorter, your plants aren’t absorbing water as quickly as they were during summer. This means you don’t need to give them as much water to keep them sufficiently hydrated.
Keep in mind that your autumn plant watering schedule should remain consistent, just with longer periods between watering.

Hold the repotting
Have you procrastinated your plant repotting all summer and are now wondering how late in the year can I repot houseplants? Don’t worry! We’ve all been there.
If you have plants which are definitely in need of a new pot, you can do this now before we get into winter. But, if not absolutely necessary, save the repotting till next spring/summer.

Keep things warm
If your house starts to get a bit chilly during the autumn months, it’s important to check that your houseplants aren’t being hit by any draughts.
You don’t need to start cranking up the heating to keep them happy, just try to make sure temperatures stay relatively consistent for them.
Move them around
The shorter days are already hitting us hard so your houseplants are bound to be noticing it too. To keep your plants healthy whilst it’s darker out, move any around that may not be getting the most out of the daylight where they are currently placed.
How much light is needed all depends on the plant species, so keep this in mind, but it’s important to remember that houseplants enter their slower growth phase during autumn and winter, so they don’t require as much light to stay healthy.
