Parlour Palm

Chamaedorea elegans

Delicate yet striking, the parlour palm is one of our most popular plants.

Its popularity is due, in part, to the fact that it’s very easy to care for. Simply keep in bright, indirect light and water when the top inch or so of soil feels dry.

Plant Bio

Originating in the forests of Central America, the parlour palm got its common name when it gained popularity in Victorian times. Many would use the striking plant to decorate their parlours, which were commonly the room in which guests would be entertained and therefore deserving of such beautiful decoration.
In more modern times this plant has retained its popularity, primarily due to its easy-going nature and breezy, tropical appearance. It’s a hard plant to kill and looks great in almost any setting, making it ideal for new plant parents.
